My Nana, Mary Dunne, collected recipes of her own and from friends and family for many many many years. She has hundreds of handwritten recipe cards in her collection. When she passed away in 2014, the one thing I knew I wanted was her recipe collection. My Nana didn’t like overly complex recipes; she liked easy, fast, and delicious recipes that she could quickly whip together. I called this blog “Dunne like Nana”, because this blog is dedicated to her recipes and her cooking style (huge thanks to my cousin Mary for helping with the name).
So – why let this amazing collection of recipes sit on a shelf in my kitchen? Why not start making these recipes and share them! This is my way to stay connected with my Nana and remember her, and it just so happens I will get to eat well and share the love in the process.
I’ll be honest, a majority of these recipes are going to be of the dessert variety. Nana had quite the sweet tooth. She also has five different types of meat loaf – and a few duplicate recipes. I figure, the ones she duplicated must be good, she obviously forgot she already put them in there, and thought it was that good more than once.
I can’t promise all of them will be up on this site right away, this will be a journey of trying every recipe and putting it up on this site. Always check back to see if there is something new for you!
What’s cool about my Nana’s recipe collection, is that on mostly every recipe card, she wrote who gave her the recipe. Some family, like her mother (my great-grandmother), her sister-in-law, her daughters (my aunts). Some friends, people who I’ve met and people who I’ve just heard stories about. It’s special to me to share in that memory of those close to her.
Enjoy!
